Otis' House

Apartment Intervention in Berlin

Full project // approx. 100 m²
In collaboration with Paola Bagna

Two front-facing rooms overlooking the street were connected by a new doorway, reorganizing the floor plan to create longer sightlines and allow natural light to flow more freely throughout the apartment.

A cube extending across the renovated rooms emphasizes the new circulation flow. This cube houses Otis’s own little world while creating new possibilities for use. The resulting spatial arrangement feels dynamic and versatile, suggesting a variety of potential future uses. The family-oriented private living space now contrasts with the public office space occupied by fotohaus, an international photography agency.

From the very beginning, Otis made the space his own, proudly welcoming visitors with a cheerful “Come on in!”

A modular construction, conceived as a cube made up of smaller cubes, enabled faster and cleaner assembly.

The cube is designed to evolve alongside Otis as he grows old enough to decide how he wants to use it. The upper level could become a second play area or sleeping space, leaving the lower area available as a study zone or guest bed. A net suspended above the doorway will create a floating relaxation area. For now, a swing expands the possibilities for play and offers a glimpse of what is yet to come…
